North Fork Nibbling, Sipping & Scribbling
I💚Greenport, NY...a very short, sweet trip to a delicious destination
One night I stopped at Ellen’s on Front for a quick glass. Unfortunately I haven’t dined there but their thoughtful wine list gave me the opportunity to taste a glass from Shared Table Farms in the North Fork (of course!) by Anthony Nappa wines, that I fell in love with.
*Regarding Basso: I had the yummiest experience there years ago when they had a location in Greenport. Since then they’ve closed, reopened and now they have closed again in another location….I wait (im)patiently for a reopening! |
I haven’t visited Matchbook Distilling Company becauseweekday trips don’t usually align with their hours, but I once purchased a bottle from One Kourt Studio (the destination for chatting about and buying low intervention wine). And one of their recommendations aside from Macari—which is wonderful…was Matchbook Distilling who at the time offered a scrumptious sparkling Pinot Noir called Les Filles Des Fetes. It was DEELISHOUS!

The brightest orange carrots were the stars of my lunches. They were casual and creative and perfectly prepared. A beautiful side dish at Anker one day and a stunning open faced sourdough “toast” with carrot “lox” and lebne at Bruce & Son.
A lovely dinner from DeMarchelier…they always are. I tasted a local red from Macari Vineyards called Sette: A Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend. It was delightful and I sipped leisurely. Dinner was artichokes stuffed with goat cheese and a divine crab and avocado salad. Fresh, unpretentious and delicious!
I’ve enjoyed Stirling Sushi to stay and to go, next door many times.
On my first walk around the marina, a parked car with the plates, "Where M I" inspired tasting notes and scribbles at my favorite art studio in town, Veme.
Spending creative time there has proven to be a priceless endeavor.
I ended this short and precious trip at Pip’s for lunch, recommended by the fabulous concierge at The Menhaden. OMG they were spot on with the delicious array of salads and sandwiches. And they serve local wine and sell local goodies. They are a more recent addition and fit in so perfectly well with the Greenport charm. I truly could live in this magical, quirky gem of an area -- part-time because I am still in an ongoing romance with NYC…;P ❤️
